Plagiarism check
The examiner has the responsibility to ensure that no fraud or plagiarism took place and should check the written report for plagiarism. For research projects – major, profile, and mini –, business internships, and writing assignments the examiner is responsible for submitting the written report via a Standard Osiris Case called Scan for plagiarism.
Please note: as examiner you need to login with your Solis-id. If you do not have a Solis-id, request one on the UMC Utrecht website containing all information regarding a Solis account.
Manual for submitting the written report via Standard Osiris Case Scan for plagiarism
Why new software?
The company Turnitin acquired Ouriginal and now only offers its own software.
What is changing?
Turnitin largely has the same functionalities but operates differently in a few ways. The most important difference is that the option to submit documents via email will no longer be available. Submitting documents must now be done via Brightspace or Osiris Case.
Changes in process final assessment
In order to complete the final assessment in Osiris Case, the submitted document (without reference list) must be checked for plagiarism. This is done using a standard Osiris Case module called Scan for plagiarism. The instructions on how to do this for research projects – major, profile, and mini –, business internships, and writing assignments can be found within the Osiris Case environment.
Source code texts
We also expect examiners to check for plagiarism in source code texts. As examiner you can choose the right plagiarism detection tool applicable for your course. For instance MOSS (Measure Of Software Similarity) can be used. On the website you can obtain a manual after you register and obtain an account.
Contract cheating sites
The use of the services as described in this paper on cheating sites is considered as plagiarism by the Board of Examiners. The examiner should take all the written versions of the student into account.
Manuals
To help you with the transition to this new system, separate manuals for different usage are provided. Please use this manual to check for plagiarism in one document via Osiris Supervisor.
For other uses, the manuals are available on the UU support site. They also provide information on how to deal with confidential documents.
hecked against documents submitted to Ouriginal between February 10, 2025, and September 16, 2025.
Report plagiarism
When fraud or plagiarism is detected or suspected, the examiner can first invite the student for a meeting to discuss the suspicion. If the suspicion is dispelled during this meeting, the examiner will refrain from reporting it to the Board of Examiners.
Any act of plagiarism should be reported to the Board of Examiners. There is a form available to record suspected fraud during a test. Please do not hesitate to contact them for informal discussion on the case before taking formal steps:
