Delay
Research project/business internship/writing assignment
Due to unforeseen circumstances the end date of the research project, business internship, or writing assignment might change.
After the end date, the student has a maximum of 20 working days that they can take to wrap up any last project details without officially requesting an extension. If the delay is longer than that, the student must request to reschedule the end date.
For research profile projects students must fill in the ‘rescheduling end date form’ in Osiris Case including the new end date, new planning for completion of the project and the motivation for this delay. The examiner and the research project coordinator will be prompted to review and approve the rescheduled end date via Osiris Case.
For all other projects (major research project, business internships and writing assignment), the student should contact their research project coordinator and include their examiner in the conversation. The email must contain the motivation for delay and the new timeline for completion of the project.
Valid reasons for postponing the end date are: more time spent on courses, extra time off due to personal circumstances, or if the examiner/supervisor needs more time due to personal circumstances. When student’s personal circumstances play a role, the student must discuss this with the study advisor before submitting the rescheduling request. Gathering more data, better results, new insight within the research group, inclusion, DEC or METC, and other matters concerning day to day practice in research are not considered valid reasons. Requests motivated with invalid reasons will be denied and students will be encouraged to finish their project by the calculated end date.
Extensive delay
It is not preferable if projects are pending for a very long time, in particular if there is no contact between student and examiner. In these cases, we advise to contact the student and try make agreements about the completion of the project including (new) deadlines. If the student fails to respond and/or hand in the report, please inform the research project coordinators to register a NVD (niet voldaan – incomplete) in Osiris.
